COMPETITION | ADCC WEST COAST TRIALS:
Two Legion San Diego athletes stepped onto the mat at the ADCC West Coast Trials and left with hardware proving that the training at Legion produces competitors ready for the highest levels of submission grappling on the planet.
The ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club) Trials are among the most competitive events in no-gi BJJ. Athletes battle through a bracket of the toughest competitors on the West Coast just for a chance to earn a spot at the prestigious ADCC World Championships. This past weekend, Legion San Diego had two athletes represent the gym, and both made the team incredibly proud.
Paige Clymer — 1st Place, +65kg
Paige Clymer delivered a dominant performance at the ADCC West Coast Trials, taking first place in the +65kg women’s division. Racking up three submissions and a decision against a tough bracket with some of the best women’s grapplers on the West Coast. Paige showcased the technical precision and relentless pressure that have been developed by training at Legion AJJ.
Taking gold in the +65kg division is an incredible achievement that not many can say they’ve done. We are incredibly proud of her performance and look forward to seeing her continue to compete at the highest levels of the sport. Next stop, ADCC worlds.
Breylor Grout — 3rd Place, -99kg
Breylor Grout had an impressive showing at the ADCC West Coast Trials, fighting his way to a third place finish in the highly competitive 99kg men’s division. A weight class notorious for being filled with some of the most elite level grapplers in the world.
The -99kg bracket is one of the toughest in all of submission grappling; big, athletic, and technically skilled competitors who are fully dedicated to winning. Breylor racked up three submissions and a decision via forfeit to win the consolation bracket. Breylor’s ability to grind through the bracket even after a loss demonstrates the physical and mental toughness he has developed through his training at Legion San Diego. His style reflects the no nonsense, high level grappling culture that defines our gym. Congratulations to Breylor Grout, and we look forward to your continued success in the sport.
