Three miles south on Miramar Road. Built for engineers, lab leads, program managers, and the families on the ridges above Sorrento Valley.
If you live on the ridges of Sorrento Valley Boulevard or Torrey Hills, maybe Pacific Highlands Ranch... or you work at a desk at Qualcomm or one of the biotech companies in Sorrento, and you're tired of cycling through boutique fitness studios and are thinking about adding the amazing hobby that is jiu-jitsu to your life, you should know that...
Legion American Jiu-Jitsu sits three miles south on Miramar Road. If you work or live in Sorrento Valley you may not even know you are as close as can be to one of the world's premier jiu-jitsu academies. Engineers, program managers, lab leads, and young families from the Sorrento Valley area all train here every week.
Jiu-jitsu is the reset your calendar does not offer, and for families, a real skill your kids carry for life.
Sorrento Valley works in sprints, quarterly demos, clinical read-outs, release cycles, and the families on the ridges run on equally full calendars. Legion is built for people whose weeks do not fit a nine-to-five mold.
Adult classes at 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM weekdays, plus weekend sessions. Leave Illumina at 5:30 and still make the mat.
No freeway juggling, no downtown parking. Our Miramar Road location is one of the shortest commutes from any SD neighborhood.
Every class has a plan. You know what you are learning, why, and what comes next. Not a random dojo, an actual training system.
Kids train while parents train. Two sessions in a single trip, something our Torrey Hills and Pacific Highlands Ranch families love.
Most classes run 60 to 90 minutes, a guided warm-up, instructor-led technique, specific sparring drills, then supervised live rolling you opt into when ready.
The 5-week beginner course, over 80 rounds run, 1,000+ graduates. The best on-ramp in San Diego.
For members past the beginner course. Technique development, live rolling, competition prep if you want it.
No-gi. Tempo, scrambles, leg locks, the modern grappling game under one roof.
Age-grouped so a 5-year-old is not drilling with an 11-year-old. Real skill your kid carries for life.
You do not need a gi, prior experience, or a base fitness level to start. Most Sorrento Valley members train two to three times a week and see real changes even in the first couple of months. By month three, you will be able to:

"Probably the best jiu jitsu for kids in San Diego. I have had my kid for three years. The lead instructors actually know childhood education and design classes around that. Mike is the lead and I have not seen that type of education training applied to this level of martial arts. Good form."
"Beautiful training room with lots of high level athletes. There is training for all levels, all styles and everyone is included whether you are looking for some competitive rounds or a slower paced flow, every roll is fun and good spirited! Great atmosphere that brings the entire jiu-jitsu community together, all around fantastic experience!"
"Loving the 5 week beginner course. Every day is a new tool in the belt!"
