Family-Stacked Training

Jiu-Jitsu in Scripps Ranch & Scripps Miramar Ranch, San Diego

A short trip down I-15. The rare gym where your kid's class and your adult class can happen in the same trip, or back-to-back, instead of becoming two separate errands on different nights.

1,000+ Beginners Graduated

Scripps Ranch families run on a full calendar. Youth sports, school pickup, work in UTC or downtown, and the I-15 bottleneck on the way home. What you do not have is another drive across town for a gym.

Legion American Jiu-Jitsu is 10 minutes south/west on Miramar Road, close enough that your kid's class and your adult class can happen in the same trip, or even back-to-back. We run a structured kids program for ages 4–12 and beginner-friendly adult classes.

If you live in Scripps Ranch or Scripps Miramar Ranch, this is the short drive that actually works.

Why Legion

Built for Families That Run on a Full Calendar

Scripps Ranch, Miramar Ranch, and Scripps Highlands residents tell us the same thing: they tried jiu-jitsu on and off elsewhere, could never make the schedule work with kids' activities, and ended up with nothing sticking. Legion was built for exactly that problem.

Train in the Same Trip

Kids classes run late afternoon and early evening, the same window youth sports use. Adult classes stack right after. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 5 PM parents' classes happen at the same time as kids'.

10–12 Minutes Down I-15

From Lake Miramar or the Scripps Ranch Library area, it's a quick southbound trip to Miramar Road. Pomerado, Canyon Road, and Camino Ruiz also work depending on traffic.

Same Coaches, Same Curriculum

Unlike the revolving-door feeling at large BJJ chains, our 20-coach team knows your kid's name and yours. Continuity of instruction, month after month, year after year.

Age-Grouped Kids Classes

4–5s, 6–8s, and 9–11s drill with peers their own size. Every youth coach has youth-specific training and the temperament to go with it.

From First Class to World Class

Find Your Program

First class is free for any program, adults or kids. Loaner gis in every size. After the trial we walk you through pricing transparently, including family rates that are commonly used by Scripps Ranch households with multiple family members training.

The most popular program with Scripps Ranch families. Age-grouped, real progress, age-appropriate discipline. From first stripe through teens.

Adult Beginner

Submission Grappling

No-gi. Tempo, scrambles, leg locks, the modern grappling game under one roof.

How It Works for Families

One Drive Replaces Two Errands

Most Scripps Ranch families have one parent and one or two kids on the membership; some have both parents training as well. The gym is designed so a family can train in overlapping or back-to-back time slots with a single trip.

  • Tuesday / Thursday / Friday 5 PM parent class runs alongside kids classes
  • Family rates available for households training together
  • Free first class for adults or kids, loaner gis in every size
  • Same coaches, same curriculum, month after month

What Scripps Ranch Members Are Saying

★★★★★

"Probably the best jiu jitsu for kids in San Diego. I have had my kid for three years. The lead instructors actually know childhood education and design classes around that. Mike is the lead and I have not seen that type of education training applied to this level of martial arts. Good form."

Frequently Asked

Scripps Ranch Jiu-Jitsu FAQs

What's the youngest age my child can start at Legion?
Our Kids Jiu-Jitsu program starts at age 4. Classes are age-grouped, so 4-year-olds drill with peers their own size, never with older or bigger kids.
How is jiu-jitsu different from karate or taekwondo for kids?
Karate and taekwondo are striking arts taught mostly through pre-set forms. Jiu-jitsu is grappling: real-world physical control, escapes from holds, and resolving conflicts without strikes. For most kids, especially those dealing with bullying, the leverage-based approach builds confidence faster and translates more directly to real situations.
Will my kid get drilled with kids way bigger than them?
No. Kids classes are age-grouped: 4–5 year olds together, 6–8s together, 9–11s together. We don't put a 5-year-old across from an 11-year-old.
I'm an adult who has never trained jiu-jitsu. Where do I start?
Adult beginners schedule a complimentary orientation with a coach, then enroll in our 5-week beginner course. The course is structured from day one so you finish able to roll safely with peers, not just survive. Over a thousand graduates and four years of refinement. Adults with prior experience can skip the orientation and book a trial class.
